Events listed on this post may include things like injuries that cross calendar months, college courses, and selected actual “real-life” events that transpired that year, etc. I’m listing these type of events in one location since they are not specific full blown missions.

- Beginning in January, a cholera epidemic started in Peru and spread through most Latin American countries. This cholera epidemic is the first in a century and sickens at least 100,000 and kills more than 700 in South America.
- February 9, A leak of radioactive water of a nuclear plant 220 miles west of Tokyo causes the plant to release 8% of the plant’s annual emissions in a single day
- Iraq invades Kuwait in August 1990. On February 24, 1991, President George H.W. Bush orders the ground war to begin in Operation Desert storm. U.S. and coalition forces smash Saddam Hussein’s forces in only four days. On February 26, in a final act of destruction, the Iraqi army sets fire to over 500 Kuwaiti oil wells. Cease-fire ends war on April 3.
- August 25, Lithuania, Estonia, and Latvia win independence from USSR.
